It was a defining moment for Co-op, the local oil and gas industry and communities across Western Canada.
On May 28, 1935, the Co-op Refinery Complex (CRC) – the world’s first co-operative refinery – officially went on stream as a 500-barrel-per-day skimming plant. Driven by a vision to produce and distribute their own gasoline, eight enterprising farmers helped the CRC become what it is today – one of Canada’s largest integrated refining and upgrading complexes.

At its core, the facility has always been fuelled by our commitment to members and customers like you and the communities that we serve. Over the years, we have built on the legacy of our predecessors as we continue to meet the needs of our members and customers throughout Western Canada.
Today, we serve as a reliable and trusted fuel supplier for the Co-operative Retailing System (CRS). Located on 800 acres in northeast Regina, the facility and its team play a critical role in distributing 17 million litres of fuel products each day to gas bars and cardlock facilities throughout the CRS in more than 650 communities across Western Canada.
As we look to the past and mark 90 years, we say “thank you.” From humble beginnings, it has been a remarkable journey driven by your support, the support of your families and the strength of the communities that we proudly serve across the CRS. This milestone is a true testament to just how far we have come together.
We’re proud to Fuel Western Canada.
